In the case of my tattoo, the red stroke, or outline, around the black shark, won't have a black outer edge. So, Rafael will create a scratch line along the outer edge of the red area. There won't be any ink applied in this step, instead a small "trench" will be dug in my skin with the needle along that line. This will serve to keep the red ink from bleeding out into the area beyond the intended design.
